The complexities of human psychology and the way we navigate our lives, fascinates me and I consider these in the demanding medium of paint. The pieces presented ask open-ended questions about love, loss, longing, and our spiritual natures. Through imagination, creation of abstracted/invented landscapes, I attempt to show an inner life that is mysterious and noble, and opts for the poetic over rational narrative, or reason.
I am interested in achieving a kind of left-handed elegance of paint-handling with areas of troweled-on impasto work against areas of brushwork. A contrast of rough/tender moments throughout a painting builds a surface tension and a sense of motion and can add to the meaning of a piece.
My hope is that viewers will see my paintings as a respite and a reaffirmation their own sense of wonder, imagination, and the soulfulness of life and art.
