These recent paintings are often brutish and lonely, psychological places made from imagination. They are driven by my artistic concerns which revolve around the human experiences of desire, regret, and joy; as well as an ongoing affair of the heart with painting.
While the content of these paintings is surely is self-portraiture and the untamed places of the mind, they are also about what I see going on in our world, which holds so much that is broken, ill, and damaged. They are an encounter with rough terrain and finding pleasure, beauty, and hope in navigating it. They do not seek sympathy.
